For a chimney sweep in Nepean, ON, Ottawa Precision Chimney Sweep sweeps the flue, inspects the brick and crown, and repairs what has worn out. Nepean has thousands of mid-century brick bungalows with their original chimneys, so we do a lot of repointing, crown repair and relining. We write the price down before any repair begins.

Nepean is closer to downtown than most of our service area, and it has more brick chimneys per street than the newer suburbs. This is what we do here most:
A lot of Nepean sales come with a buyer's inspector who flags the chimney. We have inspected about 50 chimneys for Nepean sales since 2015. If you are about to list, a chimney inspection ahead of time lets you fix small problems on your terms. A written report with photos is a selling point, not a warning.
Book it a few weeks before the listing, so any repair can be done before the sign goes up. If you are buying, ask your realtor to schedule a look as a condition of the offer. Either way, we send the report the day after the visit.
Contact UsNepean became a city in 1978 and joined Ottawa in 2001, and about 186,593 people lived there in 2021. A big share of its homes were built from the 1950s to the 1970s, and many have a brick chimney with the original clay liner.
A 1960s bungalow often has one brick chimney, built when the home was new and never touched since. After sixty winters of freeze-thaw, the mortar is soft, the crown is cracked and the clay liner may have split. None of that shows from the street, and all of it shows to a camera. In our experience, we have scanned about 80 of them in Nepean and about a third had a cracked tile.
Many Nepean homes swapped their old furnace for a high-efficiency model that vents through the side wall. The chimney then sits unused, with a liner that nobody looks at. We pull the old liner out, seal the top and, if the brick is failing, take the chimney down or rebuild the top.
Split-level and two-storey homes have taller chimneys, which means scaffolding and a bigger price on masonry work. Repointing one of those takes two to three days. We build scaffolding on stacks that need it, and the price in your written estimate includes that.
Chimney repointing in Nepean costs $700 to $3,500 in 2026. A bungalow chimney with a few bad joints sits at the low end, and a full repoint of a tall stack with scaffolding sits at the top. The number of bad joints and the height of the stack set the price.
| Repointing | Typical price in Nepean | Time on site |
|---|---|---|
| Spot repointing | $700 to $1,400 | One day |
| Full repointing, one storey | $1,400 to $2,600 | 1 to 2 days |
| Full repointing, two storeys | $2,200 to $3,500 | 2 to 3 days |
After decades, old mortar turns to sand you can scrape out with a key. It is meant to wear out before the brick does, and it has. A repoint now saves the brick faces, which are much harder and much more expensive to replace.
A mortar crown of the kind common on bungalows has maybe 20 to 30 good years. When it cracks, rain runs straight into the chimney. We patch small cracks, and pour a new crown with a drip edge when the old one is too far gone.
The January average low in Ottawa is about minus 14 degrees C, and the city gets about 232 cm of snow in a year. Brick that stays wet freezes and flakes. A cap and a good crown keep most of the water out. They are the cheapest part of the chimney to fix.
Nepean's older streets also run close to tall trees, and falling leaves and seeds block the screen on a cap. We clear them on every visit. If you see squirrels on your roof every fall, a screened cap will pay for itself in a season.
We climb up, look, and send you the price in writing. If a chimney needs nothing but a sweep, that is all you pay for.
Contact UsInsurers and buyers sometimes ask for one on a wood stove or insert. We arrange it with a partner inspector.
Contact UsA chimney sweep in Nepean costs $175 to $325 in 2026. A camera scan costs $250 to $450 on its own, or about $75 to $150 extra with a sweep. The price depends on the height of the chimney and the pitch of the roof, and we write it down before we start.
It might be, but you can't tell by looking. A 1960s clay liner often cracks, and the crown and mortar wear out. A camera scan shows the inside of the flue, and a roof check shows the top. Then you know, and you can decide.
Yes, and spring is a good time. We start in late April, once the nights stay above freezing, and finish by fall. Booking in March gets you on the calendar before the first warm week. Mortar needs temperatures above about 5 degrees C.
Yes. If your furnace and water heater vent out the side and you don't use the fireplace, we can take the chimney down brick by brick, patch the roof and close the openings inside. Removal runs $1,800 to $4,500, and it ends the leak risk.
Usually, yes. A buyer's inspector will notice a cracked crown or a rusted cap, and a written report from us with photos and a repair price lets you deal with it first. Fixing a $500 problem beats negotiating over a $5,000 one.
